Abstract
1. Malpractice and neglect are common regarding nutrition principles in hospital neonatal care units; medical staff frequently fails to meet guidelines for recommended exclusive BF of healthy newborns. 2. A considerable improvement is observed in relation to BF prevalence compared with previous surveys in Poland among newborns, 6-month-old and 12-month-old children. Nonetheless, the number of babies who are exclusively breastfed during the first 6 months of life, is too small in Central and Eastern Poland. Precocious implementation of formula and/or solid food into the infant diet is an important responsible factor. 3. Further strategies and innovative educational schedule are needed to promote breastfeeding during the first year of life in order to prevent detrimental early nutritional habits.
