Abstract
Appendicitis is the most common condition requiring emergency abdominal surgery in children and adolescents. Its well-known complications include peritonitis, periappendiceal abscess, mechanical bowel obstruction as well as postoperative wound infection. In this report we present the case of an 8-year-old boy with phlegmonous appendicitis and accompanying rotavirus infection who on the fourth day after appendectomy developed postrenal acute renal failure with anuria due to bilateral ureteric obstruction. Bilateral ureteral catheterization resulted in a quick restoration of diuresis and complete recovery of renal function. To date, only several pediatric cases with similar complication of acute appendicitis have been described in the literature.
