Abstract
The retrospective studies comprised 34 (22 boys, 12 girls, 29 full-term, 5 prematures) neonates treated between 2009 and 2015 in NICU in Zabrze, and then 28 of them in nephrology clinic. In 22 unilateral and in 12 bilateral hydronephrosis were diagnosed. Marked distension of kidneys in 35% of neonates was noted. In 44% of cases width of left kidneys ranged from 6 to10 mm and in 32% of right kidneys 11-15 mm. In 44% of neonates other congenital urinary tract defects were diagnosed. Urinary tract infections were noted in 12 neonates, among them in 4 urosepsis were noted. Abnormal markers of renal function in 5 neonates were stated. Conservative treatment in 63% of patients was sufficient treatment and 37% of infants underwent various surgical procedures, mainly plastic-ureteral pelvic connections after first year of life. Conclusions. 1) Congenital hydronephrosis is most often unilateral and noted in boys. 2) Urinary tract infections mainly due to Gram-negative bacteria are frequently complications of congenital hydronephrosis, even cause of urosepsis. 3) Conservative treatment (mainly urinary tract infection, ultrasound and laboratory markers of renal function monitoring) in most infants with this defect is sufficient treatment. 4) Neonates with antenatal and postnatal diagnosed hydronephrosis need long-term cooperation of specialists of neonatology, pediatric radiology, nephrology and urology.
