Abstract
Routinely employed diagnostic methods including blood morphology, determination of iron and ferritin, electrophoretic separation of hemoglobins, determination of HgbA2 and HgbF, often turn out insufficient to diagnose thalassemia, substantiating the need to use modern molecular biological techniques.
