Abstract
Anorexia nervosa is a psychosomatic disorder from the group of eating disorders with serious prognosis. The etiology of the disease remains unknown. It is suggested that the underlying causes of the disease are complex and consist of biological, psychological and social factors that can be divided into three broad categories: predisposing factors, causative factors and maintaining factors. The influence of cultural factors that are a kind of predisposing factor is especially strong in recent years and influences the attitudes of increasingly younger children. The variety of gastrointestinal disorders is very earge and symptoms are associated with every part of the digestive tract, from the oesophagus to the colon. A gastroenterologist is often the first specialist who examines the patient. Diagnosis of gastrointestinal disorder such as gastritis should not quele diagnostic suspicion. In case of any problems it is vital to make the medical history of patient more objective by observation in a hospital ward. In our study, we report a case of a 10-year-old girl with dominant symptoms from the gastrointestinal tract such as abdominal pain, vomiting and malnutrition. Our patient was admitted to the department with suspicion of malabsorbtion syndrome. On the basis of additional studies primary diagnosis was excluded and a diagnosis of gastritis was made. Due to the characteristic behaviour shown in the clinic, including: conscious avoiding of meals, the suspicion of an eating disorder was made. On the basis of the whole clinical picture, results of psychological and psychiatric consultations, the diagnosis of anorexia nervosa was made.
