Abstract
Tumors of the hip in young athletes are rare but should be considered in any patient with persistent symptoms. Mostly cysts or osteoidosteomas are detected; Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LHX) and fibrous dysplasia are less often the cause of symptoms. In this case report, we document a lytic bone lesion of the pelvis as the solitary manifestation of LHX. The large lesion was successfully managed by curettage with subsequent homologeous bone grafting augmented with tricalcium phosphate (Cerasorb M®). The successful management and treatment including a 3 year follow-up of a six year old girl are described.
