Sedentary individuals are characterized by reductions in both arterial compliance and insulin sensitivity relative to their endurance-trained peers, independent of changes in conventional risk factors for cardiovascular disease. These findings lend further support for the need for regular physical activity in the prevention of cardiovascular disease in individuals of all ages.
