Abstract
Despite the relatively high frequency of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (prevalence up to 0.23% in adults), most of the recommendations are based on observational studies and expert consensus. Some aspects of the disease management remain controversial. Recently, the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) guidelines on diagnosis and treatment of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy have been published. The purpose of this article is to review these recommendations and to compare them with the American Heart Association guidelines published in 2011.
