Abstract
The foramen ovale usually appears as an incidental finding, however, it has been associated with cerebrovascular accidents, migraines and other clinical conditions. Existing evidence has not yet established the precise role that patent foramen ovale has in the pathogenesis of these diseases, or its optimal treatment. This article will address this issue, with particular attention to the controversy of the indication of percutaneous transcatheter closure.
