Insuficiencia cardíaca. Manifestaciones clínicas, diagnóstico y tratamiento médico

Se revisan las manifestaciones clínicas de la insuficiencia cardíaca, orientadas hacia la realización de un diagnóstico correcto. El ECG y la radiografía de tórax son muy útiles para la evaluación de estos pacientes. La realización del ecocardiograma es obligada para objetivar la enfermedad estructural existente y para valorar la función sistólica. Los péptidos natriuréticos son de ayuda diagnóstica y pronóstica. Finalmente se insiste en la necesidad de llevar un tratamiento médico óptimo de estos pacientes.

The clinical picture of congestive heart failure is reviewed aiming to establish an accurate clinical diagnosis. The EKG and chest X-ray are very useful in the assessment of patients suffering from congestive heart failure. The echocardiogram is a compulsory diagnostic tool to assess the structural disease and evaluate systolic function. Natriuretic peptides are of diagnostic and prognostic help. It is stressed on the need of an optimal medical treatment in these patients.
