Abstract
Despite major advances in diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, mitral valve endocarditis still carries a high morbility and mortality. Management of mitral endocarditis requires a collaborative approach between all specialists involved in patient care, including cardiac surgeons. Indications and timing of surgery depend on heart function, infection control, and embolic events. Different studies demonstrated the feasibility and good outcome of mitral valve repair so best surgical option for mitral endocarditis is still controversial.
