Abstract
Blood pressure is associated with cardiovascular disease in a continuous manner. Individual cardiovascular risk can be estimated, either in a categorical or quantitative way, from values of blood pressure and associated risk factors and clinical conditions. Thus, intensity of hypertension treatment can be matched to higher cardiovascular risk. However, reduction of cardiovascular risk should be made through control of each cardiovascular risk factor, including high blood pressure, which are currently achieving an unsatisfactorily low level of treatment at goal.
