Abstract
Congenital heart disease often involves the right ventricle and right ventricular dysfunction is an important determinant of prognosis. Assessment of right ventricular morphology, size and function is of paramount importance for patient management but is hampered by the complex shape of the ventricle and by the strong influence of loading conditions. Development in imaging techniques, such as echocardiography and cardiovascular magnetic resonance, that have taken place in recent years have enabled more detailed study of the right ventricle and have increased our knowledge of its structure and function.
