Abstract
Myocarditis is an inflammatory process that affects heart muscle. Symptoms are often non-specific and diagnosis is difficult. In patients with myocarditis, contrast enhancement is frequently observed on cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging, and has proven extremely useful in diagnosis and follow-up. The presence of cardiomyopathy is a traditional indication for cardiovascular magnetic resonance, which is able to perform morphological and functional studies at a higher spatial resolution than echocardiography. Moreover, recently developed contrast-enhanced imaging can help identify disease etiology.
