Abstract
Although it is very important for prognosis that therapy results in the attainment of target cholesterol levels, most patients with hypercholesterolemia do not achieve them. This is partly because statins progressively become less effective as the dose increases. Ezetimibe is a selective cholesterol absorption inhibitor that has been shown to be effective and well-tolerated in several clinical trials in which it was used in combination with various statins. Co-administration of ezetimibe with a statin enables therapeutic targets to be met in a greater proportion of patients.
