Abstract
Severe infections in the paediatric population are becoming more frequent and aggressive. The virulence of germs, as well as antibiotic pressure that microorganisms have undergone in recent years, have led us to have more complicated infections in our care units, due to multi-resistant microbes, and their associated multiple complications. A case is presented on a paediatric patient presenting with septic arthritis secondary to infection by methicillin-resistant staphylococcus, with the presence of multiple septic pulmonary emboli, which significantly compromised his ventilatory condition, and general state. In addition to the integral management, it was decided to insert an inferior vena cava filter to prevent the perpetuation of embolism. After this procedure, a significant improvement was achieved the patient, supported by different strategies of comprehensive care provided by the paediatric intensive care unit and a targeted antibiotic therapy work-up. Although the use of these devices is not common in paediatrics, it is shown to be an important option to consider in these scenarios.
