Abstract
Community-acquired pneumonia is a disease with high prevalence and mortality. The causative organisms are similar to those published worldwide, but cases with multiple antibiotic-resistant bacteria infections are reported very infrequently. A case is reported of a patient admitted to Santa Clara Hospital, a tertiary care high complexity teaching hospital located in the city of Bogotá (Colombia). It concerns a female patient who presented with community-acquired pneumonia and parapneumonic effusion with therapeutic failure to treatment of choice according to national guidelines. A bronchoscopy was performed, with two Gram-negative bacteria with a multidrug resistance profile being isolated in the bronchoalveolar lavage. Given the unusual presentation of this disease, a review was also performed on community-acquired pneumonia due to multi-resistant microorganisms, related risk factors, the importance of bronchoscopy, adequate treatment, and prognostic factors.
