The integration of dynamic and static mechanical properties of the lung in the monitoring of mechanical ventilation in real-time has lead to a clearer understanding of respiratory effort and its components. It has become a very important tool in the follow-up of patients with non-homogeneous lung, and may also be useful in weaning process by monitoring compliance and the elastance in acute respiratory distress syndrome patient.
