Abstract

Whereas methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is an ever-increasing endemic nosocomial infection responsible for over 55% of infections in critical care settings, the available treatments are becoming less effective. Nurses need to be equipped with the evidence-based knowledge and tools available to curtail the rise of MRSA infections. This article provides a general overview of MRSA, its evolution, risk factors, disease development, and reviews guidelines for infection control and strategies for culture change.
