Abstract

Garrè’s osteomyelitis has been generally treated by surgical procedures; primarily extraction and sequestrectomy with antibiotics. In a few cases, endodontic therapy and antibiotic treatment were applied for this disease, however, root-end resection has not yet been applied. We herein present a case of Garrè’s osteomyelitis of the mandible in a child. This case was successfully treated by sequestrectomy and root-end resection of the lower first molar after endodontic treatment. No signs of infection were found in the mandible at 11 years after the operation. Combination therapy using endodontic treatment and root-end resection may be an effective treatment for the Garrè’s osteomyelitis of the mandible.
