Abstract
Chronic idiopathic urticaria is a frequent disease. It significantly impairs quality of life. Prompt and appropriate treatment is essential for controlling symptoms and to improve the patients’ quality of life. Many antihistamines have been shown to be effective in chronic idiopathic urticarial therapy. We analyzed the available studies providing direct comparison of the efficacy and safety of different antihistamines in the therapy of chronic idiopathic urticaria. There are significant differences among second-generation H1-antihistamines in the efficacy of chronic idiopathic urticarial therapy. All studied second-generation H1-antihistamines are characterized by a good safety profile.
