Abstract
The initial diagnostic work-up includes to obtain a detailed patientÌs history, with particular emphasis on medication use; physical examination and blood tests, guided by clinical suspicion. The peripheral blood microscopic examination is quite important because it validates and supplements information provided by automated hematology analyzers. Bone marrow aspirate and trephine biopsy is indicated when abnormalities of other series are present, in patient older than 50 years, and those with prolonged neutropenia and features suggestive of infiltration or marrow failure syndromes.
