Abstract
Barnes Neville Wallis (1887–1979) was probably Great Britain’s most distinguished 20th century aeronautical engineer, despite being largely self taught. He filed 140 GB patents alone between 1917 and 1959 which not only illustrate his own career but also throw light on the rise, glory years and later decline of the British aerospace industry.
