Abstract
•BAEP (brainstem auditory evoked potentials) and BA (brainstem audiometry) are objective methods for study hearing.•Appropriate BAEP and BA reference values are needed, especially for preterm infants with highest risk of hearing loss.•Tubal insert phones (TIPs) enable reliable application of waveforms I and II in BAEP diagnostics.•With TIPs the stimulation artefact is minor, and does not obscure the early BAEP components.•There are no previously published reference values for neonatal BAEP or BA using TIPs for stimulation.•We report novel reference values for neonatal BAEP and BA using TIPs for stimulation in 177 healthy neonates.
