This paper presents a technique for sizing of a concentrated photovoltaic (CPV)/battery storage (BS) system based on high efficiency multi-junction solar cells and sun tracking systems. Proposed computer software based on the energy balance technique has been used to determine the parameters of CPV/BS system which used to feed a load demand. These parameters such as: direct normal radiation for the site under study, the total yearly produced energy from one PV panel, total number of PV panels, the number of battery storage, and the number of inverts and energy cost figure. The methodology, which introduced here, has been applied to determine the optimal design and performance of CPV/BS system to be installed at East-Oweinat site as an example for the Egyptian remote areas.
► A complete technique for sizing of a concentrated PV with BS system. ► A novel package of computer programs based on MATLAB software is introduced. ► Study the effect of sun tracking system type on the total collected solar radiation. ► Determine the optimal sizing of CPV/BS system to be installed at Egyptian site.
