Molecular genetic testing of uveal melanoma from routinely processed and stained cytology specimens

► We studied the utility of routinely stained cytological preparations from uveal melanoma for molecular genetic testing. ► Two routinely used stains (Papanicolaou and Romanowsky) were tested. ► DNA of sufficient quality for testing. ► DNA extracted from approximately 200 tumor cells is sufficient to carry out molecular testing for potential prognostic markers. ► Utilizing same tumor biopsy for both cytology and molecular testing.
