Visualization of scientific data is an important task to understand the meaning of data in many research domains. Especially within environments such as the grid, where handling unprecedented amounts of data becomes viable, support from scientific visualization may be crucial. GVid, a middleware extension for interactive videostreaming of visualization content, addresses this particular need. By combining standard video streaming technology with scientific visualization functionality, and by performing the combination of both within a grid infrastructure, novel functionality for exploration of (large-scale) data is provided. This allows the user to benefit from the grid for processing, transporting, and rendering, and enables better understanding of the scientific problem at hand.
