Abstract

•This paper presents an example of education and training approach together with the best practices at the level of an HPC center, e.g. BSC, aimed at addressing key challenges as well as corresponding specific technical focus areas of EU strategic research agenda for HPC.•The paper outlines the BSC model of education and training, presents the relevant structure of the program as well as the key role the relationships with the universities play in this partnership.•Further, based on the centre experience, analyses the impact and concludes that in order to achieve wider impact beyond the ICT community it is important to maintain strong relationship and collaboration in HPC and related areas with local universities and that is equally important to maintain and demonstrate strong research in variety of scientific domains within such centres.

This paper outlines the key components of the European HPC ecosystems, analyses the major challenges as well as corresponding specific technical focus areas which needs to be addressed in European strategic research agenda for HPC leadership. Further the need for education and training is clearly identified and the BSC approach, BSC model and best practices are presented and analyzed. Further a generalization and analysis of the approach are given.
