Abstract
⺠DFA is often used to estimate the scaling exponent of neurophysiological signals. ⺠We extend DFA to characterise potentially changing scaling exponents. ⺠We validate the method using surrogate data with time-varying scaling exponents. ⺠We systematically examine the dependence of the method on its free parameters. ⺠We demonstrate the applicability of the method to neurophysiological signals.
