Abstract
An IEEE 802.11 wireless local area network (WLAN) provides the centralized polling-based medium access control (MAC) to support Quality of Service (QoS) requirements. In this letter, we present a performance analysis of popular polling MAC schemes over the Gilbert–Elliot channel model. We describe our validation through simulations under various channel conditions and discuss performance characteristics of the polling schemes.
