Abstract
Given two relatively prime integers s and t, we prove that there are exactly self-conjugate partitions that are simultaneously s-core and t-core. For distinct primes p and q, this leads to a count of p- and q-blocks for the alternating groups whose sets of ordinary irreducible characters coincide.
