Abstract
Using Faltings' theorem on the Mordell conjecture, we prove that for any prime p⩾5 and integer n⩾2, the cyclotomic symbols {a,Φn(a)} do not form a subgroup of K2(Q). This partially confirms a conjecture of Browkin.
