Abstract
In this paper we present a decomposition theorem for hermitian forms refining the usual Witt decomposition in the case of characteristic two. We apply this decomposition to algebras with involution over fields of characteristic two to give a complete description of the effect of passing to the separable closure of the underlying field on the isotropy of the involution.
