Abstract

We show that the lateral completion GLGL of an archimedean lattice-ordered group GG can be obtained directly from the structure sheaf of GG. Combined with a natural embedding of GLGL into the ll-group of almost everywhere defined continuous functions on the Stone space associated to GG, we get a simple construction of the essential closure of GG.
