Abstract
We introduce a notion of derived completion applicable to arbitrary homomorphisms of commutative SS-algebras, and work out some of its properties, including invariance results, a spectral sequence proceeding from purely algebraic information to the geometric results, and analysis of relationships with earlier constructions. We also provide some examples. The construction has applications in algebraic KK-theory.
