Abstract
One code family suitable for passive optical network based on optical code division multiple access is present. Though spatial coding is used for capacity enlargement, the corresponding encoding/decoding devices require less fiber ribbons than that of the spatial/spectral systems proposed previously and the code cardinality is maintained. In addition, the multiple access interference is eliminated in the decoders of the proposed network and the phase-induced intensity noise arising during the photo-detecting process is suppressed further. Therefore, larger capacity can be accommodated in the network with simplified coding hardware.
