Abstract
The Data Retention (EC Directive) Regulations 2007 are now in force, partially implementing an EU Directive on data retention and requiring network providers to retain certain records of telephone calls for at least a year so that they are available to the police and security services for the investigation of serious crime. This paper considers the scope and effect of the new Regulations.
