Abstract
A new species of Leptotarsus (Longurio) primitivus sp. nov., a representative of the family Tipulidae from the Lower Cretaceous (ca. 125 Ma) Yixian Formation of Huangbanjigou, Beipiao City, Liaoning Province, China, is described and illustrated. This finding represents one of the earliest fossil record of the Tipulidae in the world. Among 20 subgenera from the genus Leptotarsus Guérin-Méneville, 1831, this new species from China is classified to the subgenus Longurio Loew, 1869 based on characters of wing venation and morphology of rostrum and antenna.
