Abstract
Gonomyia (Azaria) libanensis subgen. n. and sp. n. is described from Lebanese amber (Lower Cretaceous). This is the oldest representative of the genus Gonomyia Meigen, 1818 (Diptera, Limoniidae) known so far. Wing venation and morphology of hypopygium distinctly distinguish Gonomyia (Azaria) libanensis subgen. n. and sp. n. from the other known fossil and recent subgenera and species of Gonomyia. Trends in reduction of wing venation for the genus are discussed.
