Abstract

Selection of appropriate colour for a particular purpose of information dissemination is crucial to ensure the accuracy of information. Colour plays an important role in multimedia design and can be considered as a critical component of any design. Good selection and use of colour can improve the quality of the presentation of information in multimedia design. Colour covers many aspects of human life from the scientific field to the field of sociology. Psychological aspect as a clash point of these two different fields also agreed with the role of colours in influencing human perception. Inappropriate use of colour can seriously reduce the effect, objective, and quality of the information convey through multimedia design. Impression produce by colour gives various feeling to the viewer. Different mode of colour on presenting the multimedia will lead to different situation or condition. Multimedia design tools had offered lots of colour to be used by user, but there is no tool such as colour corrector on impression of colours used in designing multimedia interface is available. Research on the classification on impression for two- colours on individual with different personalities had been done by Sato and Mitsukura, and 80% of the combination of two- colours can be classified by impression. Further studies had been suggested on this area. The objective of this study is to construct a framework to identify the impression exist in combination of two colours. The framework will be used to find the perception of culture and life style of Malaysians. The study investigates the impression resulting from the combination of two colours that will gain insights from five abstract painters in Malaysia. The injection of impression on colour palette is wished to improve the human perception and feel on designing multimedia application.
