Abstract
The variation of gain in erbium doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) based optical networks has a direct implication on optical signal to noise ratio (OSNR) and system capacity. In this paper, investigations have been carried out to analyze the gain and noise figure characteristics of a cascaded EDFA DWDM network using optical gain flattening filter operating in C-band. The effect of pump power, filter length and temperature on gain and noise figure has been discussed in particular. A flat gain over 30 nm with 0.1 dB has been obtained at 25°C. Further, the paper discusses the implications associated with such a cascaded configuration.
