Abstract
Many studies have conducted numerical simulations of elastic bodies undergoing large deflections and displacements, but there have been few attempts to validate their numerical predictions experimentally. The main aim of this paper is to validate of the absolute nodal coordinate formulation (ANCF) by comparing its predictions to the experimental measurements on beams excited by base motions. Physical experiments with a high-speed camera were carried out to capture the large displacement of the beam and to verify the results of computer simulations. A function generator was used to excite the beam. Numerical results obtained from computer simulations were compared with the results from the physical experiments.
