Abstract
The novel boron nitride nanosheet and copper sulfide nanohybrids (BNNS@CuS) were synthesized by a facile solvothermal approach and proposed as a prominent peroxidase-like mimic. Through integrating an intensified colour reaction induced by catalytical oxidation with cholesterol oxidase, the BNNS@CuS was developed for the colorimetric determination of cholesterol with a linear range of 10-100 μM and a detection limit of 2.9 μM. The intrinsic peroxidase-like activity of BNNS@CuS followed the typical Michaelis-Menten kinetics. The method was further utilized for the visual detection of total cholesterol in human serum and showed high selectivity toward cholesterol. Our research manifested that the cholesterol biosensing method based on BNNS@CuS was cost-effective, reliable, highly efficient and feasible.
