Abstract
⺠I examine the leniency policies of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). ⺠I explore the SEC's choice to sanction restatement firms. ⺠Cooperation with SEC staff increases the likelihood of an SEC enforcement action. ⺠Cooperation with SEC staff is rewarded through a reduction in monetary penalties. ⺠Timely disclosure of a restatement is also rewarded by the SEC.
