Abstract
In the present work, an optimised FEM–BEM iterative coupling algorithm is presented, regarding time-domain dynamic applications. The methodology allows non-linear behaviour to be easily considered within sub-domains modelled by the FEM, as well as independent time discretizations to be considered within each sub-domain. By minimizing a square error functional, an optimised expression is obtained to evaluate the iterative coupling relaxation parameter, increasing the efficiency of the FEM–BEM coupled analysis directly accomplished in the time-domain. At the end of the paper, numerical applications are presented, illustrating the potentialities of the proposed methodology.
