Abstract

The element-free Galerkin method (EFGM) is based, as the finite-element method, on an integral formulation. This method, requiring only a set of nodes distributed on the analysis area, employs the moving least squares (MLS) approximation for the construction of the shape functions. The main objective of this work is to determine the effects of some parameters such as the width of influence domain, the number of integration points and the weight function, on the approximated solution obtained by the EFGM. For this study, Poisson's equation is considered. The weight function parameters are chosen so that the error falls down leading to a more accurate result.
