Abstract
The electromagnetic (EM) transfer properties of a spherical human head model are investigated by using the coupled hp finite/infinite element (FE/IE) method. The benchmark problem of scattering a plane wave is utilized to verify FE/IE simulation based on Mie series solution. The convergence tests for curvilinear geometries and H(curl)H(curl)-conforming elements adopt a precise definition of the discretization error incorporating the effects of geometry approximation. The radiation pattern from a short dipole antenna which models the cell phone is analyzed by evaluating the level and distribution of specific absorption rate (SAR). The FE/IE error is controlled by a self-adaptive process driven by an explicit a posteriori error estimate.
