Substituent and intramolecular hydrogen-bond effect on the fluorescent emission of two easy-synthesizable fused rigid bicyclic octadiene derivatives

The weak fluorescent emission of two easily synthetized rigid butterfly bicyclo[3.3.0]octa-2,6-diene compounds is explained in terms of the π→π* and or n→π* character of the involved transitions and the role of the intramolecular hydrogen bond among the hydroxyl and the ester groups in one of these molecules.170
