Abstract
The MgO-Ga2O3-SiO2 glasses and glass-ceramics (GCs) samples doped in Eu/Ce with different composition in different heat treatment atmospheres and temperatures were synthesized successfully by the sol-gel method. The structure and luminescent properties were studied by means of X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and fluorescence spectrophotometer. The results indicate that the MgGa2O4 nanocrystals in air atmosphere are easier to form than that in reductive one. When annealed in air atmosphere, the luminescent spectra show that only characteristic luminescence of Eu3Â + ions is observed. However, annealed in reductive atmosphere, the emission of Eu2Â + and Ce3Â + at 447Â nm (4f65d1-4f7) and 410Â nm (5d-4f) is observed, respectively. In addition, when co-doped Eu/Ce in reductive atmosphere, the emission band centered at 447Â nm from Eu2Â + occurs and there is no luminescence of Ce3Â + because of the energy transfer from Ce3Â + to Eu2Â +. The effect of concentration of MgO and Ga2O3, anneal temperature and doped ions on luminescent properties were also studied.
