Using competition assays to quantitatively model cooperative binding by transcription factors and other ligands

Relative occupancies of binding sites by cooperating ligands depend both on individual affinities and on cooperativity among the ligands. These parameters affect the occupancy in complex ways as a function of relative concentrations of ligands and substrate. Modeling function in cells can be facilitated by quantifying these parameters individually.382
